Fox Sports HD systems

Fox Sports have just released their Fox Sports HD into Commercial premises. This allows for a much higher quality viewing experience which has been lacking since flat screen TVs have been installed in Hotels. The increase of picture quality can be noticed even when HD boxes are connected to the most common installed RF modulator system. But this system is still analogue and while the picture quality is increased, it is only minor due to it being an analogue signal.

To fully maximise the 1080i signal, venues will have to install either a component or HDMI system to transmit the HD signal to every TV.

Component vs. HDMI

Component has been the favourite system for high end commercial distribution systems. They can transmit up to 1080i signal to various TVs via a Component Matrix Switch. To fully maximise these systems a Creston IR control system can be installed to give the Hotel full control over their screens and sources. These kinds of systems are very costly and could reach over $100k. The only problem with Component is the use of Blu-ray players over this network is legally not possible due to HDCP (High-Bandwidth Digital Copyright Protection) that is embedded in such devices. Also the release of 3D TVs and the need for High Bandwidth transmission capabilities for the next generation of HD content is not possible over a Component system.

HDMI is being pushed by Hollywood and most HD capable devices due to its capabilities in content and copyright protection. Also it transmits Full HD 1080p picture and Full Digital sound down the run cable reducing the need for costly maintenance and the flexibility for a rugged future proofed system. HDMI also allows for Infra Red signal to be transmitted along its cable which also gives more functions over one cable. The HDMI cables can be connected to numerous kinds of systems including a Matrix switch and various other switching devices.
