How do you tell the difference between all the different automation systems available now?

This is a common question that I find most of my customers were asking themselves when they started to look at what was available to suit their needs. Cbus, Dynalight, IControl,HAI, A10, X10 and many other new systems are some of the names floating around today. How do you work out the difference between them?

First, you need to have a look at the system’s brain., How is it all controlled?

> What kind of wiring system is used. Cat5e wired switch plates, hardwired 240v cable back to a relay board.

> What can the system do? Does it do everything itself, or does it combine a lot of third party proprietary systems to bring you a complete system?

> Is it IP compatible? Does it talk in the most common language of Internet Protocol?

> What is the pricing of the system? Does it give you value for money?

These are just a few of the questions that should be answered before you choose which system is right for you.
